“It’s been taught that your worst enemy couldn’t harm you as much as your wicked thoughts.”

RZA – Sunshower, WuTang Forever

I am pretty sure RZA drew his inspiration from Buddha’s teaching of “Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own thoughts unguarded.”

I think these lyrics have resonated with all of us at one time or another.

When starting a project or moving forward with a new idea, that voice of self-doubt can linger. We often think the worst while looking inward. The perception of our own self is often critical. We tend to think this is how others see us as well. In most instances, that is not the case. The truth is, no one will ever be able to hurt us more than our own insecurities.

To complete the Buddha’s teaching, “But once mastered, no one can help you as much, not even your father or your mother”. In time we learn to ignore the doubts, that they are false and do nothing but hold us back. Once this lesson is learned we will become our best selves, both in our business and personal lives.

Remember…just like Wu-Tang, our brilliance is forever, and nothing can diminish it. So, stop letting that inner enemy take control, know it is not who we are meant to be. Now go out there and make something of this day. 👐
